Absolute and style victory for the Vespa Polini team at the 500kms Endurance in Pomposa!
An engaging race until the last second. 7 endless and throbbing hours of race, 313 laps full of passion, 500 kms of adrenalin-filled emotions till the finish line. Saturday September 21st was a full of emotions day for the Scooter Vespa Polini team, that won a real full-speed marathon on the Pomposa (FE) circuit.
A time-space challenge between more than 30 teams and one-hundred drivers who fought till the last km in a race born from Stefano Bono e la Italian Scooter Challenge ASD’s passion for Vespa and Lambretta, proposing an endurance race on the Italian circuit. During its 6th edition, the event has reconfirmed the timeless passion for the Vespa.
The kick-off at 10.00am has been a spectacular start in Le Mans style, and the Vespa Polini team drove without problems. After 8 pit-stops, at about the 5.30pm the checkered flag set off with 1 second of advantage the triumph of the Polini Vespa, both in the “Derivate di serie” category and in the “Assoluta” one, beating all the drivers even those in the powerful “Prototypes” category. It is important to underline this victory, because if in the “Derivate di Serie” category the Vespa cannot be tuned (with limits on displacement and carburetor), the “prototypes” category does not withstand to any limitations, and it is also possible to use additional tanks.
Authors of the Polini success have been Julien Vitali, Filippo Benini, Slovenian Martin Mihael, Nazzareno Lumina. The team was coordinated by Denis Polini, technical area Manager, with the assistance of the Race department’s specialists, Matteo Tiraferri, Giuseppe Goisis and the precious collaboration of the racing Vespa tuner, Mario La Greca.
The four drivers took turns to the driving with very fast changes and refueling, demonstrating a super synergy and the best lap timing of the “Vespa derivate di serie” class (between 1’07” and 1’09”).
During the event, the change of driver took place at the pit-lane with the teams that choose their place depending on the organization order. For each driver and for each round, the minimum timing of permanence in the track was between 20 minutes and 60 minutes. Refueling and change of driver had the following sequence: the drivers entered the Pit-lane with the engine off; after refueling the mechanic bought at the pit-lane entrance, handling it to his teammate who re-started the engine.
